The preferred starting salary for this position is $25.51 Hourly and $53,060.80 Annually. This position performs professional and managerial duties planning, developing, managing, and participating in the daily operation of the Adult Programming and Reference Services Department at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library's (JMRL) Central Library. Completes work with substantial discretion and within broad parameters. Reports to the Assistant Library Director.

* Oversees work of the department in delivering adult programs and reference services.
* Supervises, coaches, trains, motivates, and evaluates the performance of staff and volunteers; interviews, selects, assigns, schedules and monitors work activities, and administers disciplinary action to subordinate employees in accordance with established personnel policy and procedures. Establishes professional standards for work quality, quantity, performance, and accountability.
* Plans, develops, and implements regional library programs and services to meet the needs of the community and the mission of JMRL.
* Coordinates with other regional managers to develop and implement a cohesive approach to programming and reference services.
* Participates in the library's reconsideration process, coordinating JMRL's responses as needed.
* Support staffing at a public service desk to provide reference and information assistance.
* Provides and supervises public computer instruction for library patrons.
* Researches, selects, and collaborates on purchasing collection development materials, including reference materials, database resources, and periodicals. Works with outside vendors and internal staff to ensure successful and accurate resource delivery.
* As a member of the regional library's management team this position provides region-wide leadership for library reference policies, procedures, goals, training, and customer service and leads and participates in various committees.
* Responsible for appropriate use and maintenance of JMRL equipment, tools, and other resources, including work time.
* Regular and reliable attendance.

* Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as apparent or assigned.
Education and Experience: Candidates may qualify by demonstrating the required knowledge and skills outlined for the job through experience(s) other than formal education.
* Eligibility for professional certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia within the first 2 years of employment AND 3 years of experience in library adult reference services, including supervisory experience.
OR
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above.
Preferred:
* Extensive knowledge of electronic and print reference information services.
Certifications/Licenses/Other Requirements:
* Required to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
