KAYAK is looking for a highly organized and motivated attorney to join our team as Counsel - Ads, Marketing, Product! You will be providing strategic legal advice for various advertising, marketing, and product initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations while supporting business objectives, and assist in tackling a diverse suite of our contracts related to the travel industry.
This dynamic role as a member of the KAYAK legal team will involve advising the business on advertising, marketing, product, intellectual property, pitching in on commercial matters, and collaborating with global cross-functional teams to understand their needs. This person will be a detailed individual with strong work ethic who enjoys a fast-paced environment and innovative, collaborative culture.
This role is required to work from our Concord, MA office at least 2-3 days weekly.
In this role, you will:
Review and approve advertising, marketing, and PR materials targeted at multiple jurisdictions across the globe to ensure compliance with legal requirements
Provide proactive legal advice and support to the product team related to product design, functionality, and marketing from initial concept stage through launch and post-launch
Manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio and counsel on strategy, protection, and enforcement
Draft, review and deliberate over inbound and outbound agreements, including advertising insertion orders, promotional and co-marketing agreements, licensing and content agreements, and vendor agreements (IT, SaaS, services, sales, product), and other agreements
Support the commercial team on a wide range of contractual matters on an as-needed basis
Monitor and interpret relevant legal developments, including changes in consumer protection laws and travel-specific regulations
Provide sound and timely advice to business partners regarding legal and other risks and recommending strategic solutions and alternatives
Research and provide legal counsel on a variety of topics as the need arises
Please apply if you have:
JD from a nationally or internationally-recognized law school & Admission to a State Bar
Proved experience of approximately 5-6 years reviewing contracts and working directly with partners throughout an organization including marketing, advertising, communications, and product, preferably within a technology company
Familiarity with IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) or Dentsu standard terms is a plus, but not required
Strong background in intellectual property law, including managing portfolios and strategy
Understanding of data privacy laws, regulations, and other relevant data protection frameworks
Proven track record of building positive relationships with internal business stakeholders
Ability to review, analyze, draft and broker dynamic contractual terms
Ability to effectively communicate and explain intricate legal matters to diverse business partners
Exceptional facility with spotting issues, assessing and communicating risks, making common-sense decisions in the face of ambiguity, and finding creative solutions to achieve business goals
Ability to balance multiple matters simultaneously and to respond quickly to shifting priorities under specified timelines
Highly motivated and resourceful with the ability to work proactively and independently with eagerness to take on tasks in new or unfamiliar areas of the law
Excellent judgment, high integrity, and strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a “can-do” mentality
Language skills and/or multi-jurisdictional experience a plus
