The Team: The APL-UW Communications and Information Services ensures that internal and external messages and information about the Laboratory’s research, development, teaching, and outreach activities are produced and conveyed to the highest standard. This collaborative team is key to creating and sustaining APL-UW identity by conceiving and producing high-quality, consistent communications products across all media, including print, digital, video, and social media. The Position: We are seeking a full-time Web Developer to join the team. This position has a salary range of $84,000 to $102,000 per year, along with great employment benefits and competitive total compensation incentives. The Web Developer will collaborate with a team of graphic designers, content creators, videographers, and software engineers to enhance the Laboratory’s public website. Web Developer Responsibilities: Website Development: Oversee, manage, and improve websites by developing new user-facing and mobile-based features. Collaborate with the team’s software engineers to define coding practices, standards, and security protocols. Write clean, secure, and reusable code and libraries for future use. Validate the technical feasibility of website designs, applying best practices in designing and testing for accessibility. Conduct thorough testing of user interfaces in multiple platforms. Troubleshoot and respond to errors and issues as they arise. Write SQL queries and extract data from UW data warehouses as needed. Integrate internal and third-party web tools and applications. Maintain awareness of technology advances and collaborate on applying new approaches. Project Management: Prepare detailed project schedules across all phases. Develop strategies and systems to monitor and track progress. Perform schedule analysis and propose mitigation strategies. Participate in routine virtual/in-person/hybrid meetings to apprise the project team of progress. General Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in information systems, web design, or related field and 2 years of experience as a professional developer. US Citizenship. Skills in development technologies including HTML, CSS, JSON, and API usage. Strong understanding of front-end coding and development technologies. Proficient understanding of client-side scripting such as JavaScript, and JavaScript frameworks. Familiarity with server-side languages such as Python and PHP. Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues. In-depth understanding of the entire web development process. Knowledge of accessibility issues for users with disabilities. Experience maintaining and troubleshooting existing web applications and sites. Excellent analytical and multitasking skills. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new methods and tools. Excellent written/oral communication skills. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
