Pacific Ties Newsmagazine was created in 1977, becoming the first Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) student publication in the country. Our newsmagazine was born out of anti-imperialist activism, and we strive to uphold these values as a publication. We encourage our staff to utilize our platform to speak out against injustice within and outside of the APIDA community.
As a Pacific Ties writer, you will be responsible for:
Attending weekly staff meetings.
Pitching ideas.
Covering a range of events and topics relevant to the APIDA community at UCLA, in Los Angeles, or in the nation and beyond.
Publishing articles on a regular basis.
The forms of writing you may contribute include, but are not limited to:
News reporting
Opinion pieces
Blog posts
Reviews
Short stories
Poetry
Creative fiction pieces
Writers will be required to contribute at least 3 pieces per quarter, and our meetings are held from 6-7 PM on Wednesdays.
