GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Events and Marketing Manager is responsible for planning and managing the coordination of events, providing campaign support, while maintaining, updating, and promoting the organization's website and social media accounts. This position is also accountable for community engagement and business resource development.
OBJECTIVES and EXPECTATIONS: The Events and Marketing Manager is responsible for helping to advance the brand and positively position United Way as a philanthropic leader and trusted partner in the community. The ideal candidate should have an intimate understanding of how marketing campaigns work and know how to run profitable events. The candidate must be energetically prepared to handle a fast-paced work environment and remain flexible to event needs. The Events and Marketing Manager will increase the awareness and visibility of MAUW (Marshalltown Area United Way) to the public, donors, and volunteers through strategic execution of marketing plans, events, and the development of compelling content for advertising, awareness and engagement purposes. This position will provide creative input; help create and implement an integrated marketing plan; collaborate with staff to ensure consistent messaging and uniformity of presentation; measure results and make adjustments for continuous improvement.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Events
Coordinating, implementing, and managing a variety of special fundraising events including the annual MAUW Golf Tournament, Power of the Purse, and other miscellaneous events. Assists with annual Kick-off Event and Year-End Celebration and Recognition Event. Schedule and lead all events planning meetings with specific event committees. Performs research to explore venue and vendor options for events to optimize revenue. Mindfully minimizes expenses and creatively finds multiple ways to maximize profit. Act as the primary lead onsite during events to ensure proper flow and manage details. Propose ideas and implementation to improve event quality. Conducts event follow up to determine how future events could be enhanced. Organize event venues and manage all details such as dcor, catering, entertainment, location, invitee list, promotional materials, etc. Work with partner agencies, campaign cabinet, and board members to coordinate their presence and participation at events. Facilitate and coordinate the Day of Action' volunteer event(s) for community engagement.
Marketing
Continually maintain and update the organization's website. Develop content for and actively engage on the MAUW social media channels. Work with area media outlets to promote events. Create compelling marketing and event emails to support the MAUW marketing strategy. Write and issue press releases throughout the year. Capture analytics to adapt strategy and ensure progress against goals. Work with partner agencies to foster a storytelling culture to create engagement. Adhere to United Way Worldwide's brand standards and guidelines. Work with the Executive Director to align campaign content with major accounts which supports their communication strategy and find opportunities to share MAUW's work with their employees.
Business Resource Development and Community Engagement
Assist with cultivating business partnerships and giving presentations. Explore various grant opportunities, strategically work with the Executive Director to evaluate and submit applications in order to sustain and continually grow MAUW funding levels. Engagement with service club organizations and other local affiliations. Develop ways to create year-round engagement with business partners and employees.
General
Attend MAUW and local community events. Work simultaneously on multiple projects and expertl manage multiple deadlines. Assist with data entry and updating information in the donor database. Keep the Executive Director notified of workflow. Proof and review materials. Maintain volunteer hours log. Assist with campaign mailings as needed. Represent the Marshalltown Area United Way in a positive manner. Other duties as assigned.
Key Skills Requirements:
Minimum of an associates degree in communications, marketing or related discipline, or experience equivalent. Experience in marketing and digital communications. ? Social media experience with creating content, utilizing, and interpreting analytical data along with understanding of how to market to drive interest and revenue. Non-profit sector experience (preferred). Demonstrate ability to work cross functionally as part of a team to accomplish individual and mutually defined goals within specified timeframes. Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills. ? Confident and experienced with public speaking engagements. Systematic and creative problem-solving skills. ? Must be organized and task oriented to ensure deadlines are met. ? Self-motivator with the ability to work with minimum supervision. Exceptional attention to detail to produce consistently flawless work. High level of professionalism. Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strong listening skills and ability to see new opportunities or broader implications. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite. Experience working with Constant Contact and CRM (preferred). Familiarity in Workplace by Facebook (preferred). Experience in photography and/or videography is a plus.
