Detailed Job Description

The School of Film and Animation (SOFA) in the College of Art and Design at Rochester Institute of Technology is accepting applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer position in film production to teach undergraduate courses. The successful applicant will have expertise in all aspects of foundational film production, beginner and intermediate documentary production, plus at least two of the following: documentary film studies, business and careers in film, producing, and editing.

In SOFA’s BFA in Film and Animation, faculty contribute a range of professional interests and expertise in a studio setting. Join a vibrant faculty team engaged in filmmaking and film study across the spectrum. Individuals with university teaching experience in film production are encouraged to apply. Experience teaching film studies is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Teaching in foundational, technical, and production courses
  2. Career advising and mentoring students
  3. Working with the School of Film and Animation faculty on program and curricular development
  4. Maintaining a high level of expertise in current technologies, trends, methodologies, and software developments in the professional community, as they relate to the current curriculum
  5. Participating in college and school service

Required Minimum Qualifications

  1. MFA degree or equivalent terminal degree. In certain circumstances, candidates with a bachelor degree and skill qualifications, and exceptional professional and creative experience in a production-related field will be considered.
  2. Artistic achievement in documentary filmmaking
  3. Capacity to teach basic film production, and beginner and intermediate documentary production
  4. Expertise in at least two of the following areas: documentary film studies, business and careers in film, producing, and editing
  5. Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
