Position Summary
The History of Art and Design Department at Pratt Institute invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in Asian art, design, and/or material culture to begin in Fall 2025. Field and period of specialization are open - across East, Southeast, Central or South Asian art and design - though preference will be given to scholars working in a time period prior to the contemporary moment. We value applicants whose intellectual interests demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary, intersectional, and transregional approaches; this is of greater importance to the department than filling a specific geographic or chronological focus.
Examples of Duties
- Teach courses in your field that contribute to the Department, School and Institute curriculum, including the General Education program.
- Demonstrate and maintain a substantial program of research and publication that contributes to a discipline or academic field at a national or international level.
- Participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning.
- Participate in committee work and other services to the Department, School and Institute.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Provide leadership for area faculty, and staff. Contribute to the life of the department, School, and Institute.
- Maintain a full-time load of 9 contact hours per semester (comprised of teaching, research and service).
Qualifications
An earned doctorate in the history of art, history of design, or a suitably aligned field is preferred but ABD candidates close to completion may also be considered. Candidates must have ideally at least 3 years teaching experience at the college level. Candidates also must have excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated intercultural competence, and the ability to work well with diverse populations. Members of underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
We ask applicants for all faculty positions to share their approaches to fostering learning, research, service, and outreach in a diverse community. Your cover letter and statements should describe how you have worked to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in your career and how you would continue to do so at Pratt; letters and statements should not exceed 6 pages combined.
