The City of Show Low is hiring a full-time Library Information Specialist focused on adult programming.

Performs various duties within a specialty area, such as planning and presenting programs, cataloging and repairing library materials, providing technology assistance, or supervising front-line staff.


Positions Show Low Public Library as a major component of public education for all ages.


Fully embraces the library’s educational mission, effectively communicating the library’s curriculum, which comprises three pillars: self-directed education, research assistance and instruction, and instructive and enlightening experiences.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Library Services Manager.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May supervise over other employees and volunteers as assigned.


Provides extraordinary customer service to the public.


Positions and promotes the library to meet the needs of the community.


Provides leadership and training to other library employees to increase their skills in their assigned specialty area.


Communicates and enforces policies and procedures to the public; responds to inquiries and resolves issues and concerns; communicates issues and concerns to supervisor.


Performs duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards; ensures applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed.


Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service; participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental, and workgroup goals and objectives.


SPECIALTY AREA DUTIES:

(Note: all specialists may perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.)


Circulation Services:

  1. Delivers research assistance and readers’ advisory assistance to the public.
  2. Ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of circulation services and front-line staff.
  3. May assist the Library Services Manager in collection development through weeding, inventory, and selection of new materials.

Technical Services:

  1. Copy catalogs and processes new materials in accordance with RDA standards.
  2. Repairs and cleans damaged materials (books, DVDs, audiobooks, etc.).

Programming:

  1. Plans, teaches, and facilitates public events, classes, seminars, and workshops, which reflect the educational goals of the library.
  2. Visits schools and other local organizations for events and works closely with community organizations to determine community needs.

Computer Lab:

  1. Provides hardware and software support to maintain and enhance the library’s computer systems.
  2. Teaches and assists library patrons to use various forms of technology, such as computers, printers, scanners, e-readers, cell phones, and other devices.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:

  1. Serves as a member of committees as assigned.
  2. Answers phones, runs errands, and acquires supplies as needed.

Education and Experience:

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent; and
  2. Two (2) years of library, education, or information technology experience; or
  3. Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of libraries; Knowledge of the principles and practices of information technology systems; Knowledge of teaching and learning techniques.
  2. Computer, software, and network maintenance skills; teaching skills for youth and/or adults.
  3. People skills – ability to work effectively with others and enjoy it.
  4. Customer service skills.
  5. Communication skills, both written and oral.
  6. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  7. Tech savvy.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Valid Arizona Driver License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  2. Incumbents in this position are frequently required to work varied shifts including evenings and weekends.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Personal computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), Integrated Library Systems (Polaris), printers, audio-visual equipment, phones, general office equipment, and automobiles.
