Coralville United Methodist Church is hiring: Music Director in Coralville

Position: Part-Time Music Director (September-May) at Coralville United Methodist Church

Position Description: Coralville United Methodist Church (CUMC) is accepting applications for the position of Music Director. Our music ministry reflects the overall vision at CUMC, “to feed the physical and spiritual hunger of the Coralville community so that they will know they are bold, beautiful, amazing, and loved by God.” We are a reconciling congregation, inclusive of all people, including the LGBTQ+ community, in full participation of the church.

The position is for September through May, with additional time off to be arranged with the pastor and worship team. Applicants must be available on Sunday mornings, and on for weekly rehearsals, currently on Wednesday evenings (day and time of rehearsal may be negotiable with choir members and church calendar).

The Celebration Choir typically provides music during Sunday worship services at 9:30 AM and on special sacred holidays. The handbell choir occasionally provides special music. There is ample music available for use in our music library. We are willing to be flexible with the job responsibilities required, which would be negotiated in an interview.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Direct the Celebration Choir
• Work with the pastor and music ministry team to plan music for the worship services and attend meetings as needed
• Lead hymns on Sunday mornings and/or coordinate volunteers to lead hymns
• Encourage participation from anyone in the congregation to join the music ministries and help them develop their musical gifts

Additional Responsibilities may include:

• Direct handbell choir. Specific training in handbell choir directing is not necessary.
• Direct children/youth choir

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of sacred and classical music. Preference for knowledge of the United Methodist Hymnal and supplemental hymnal, The Faith We Sing. Knowledge of other types of worship music is desirable, but not required.
• Experience with sight reading and group/choir directing
• Appreciation for different styles of worship music. Must be adaptable and collaborative with the music ministry team, comprised of staff and members of the congregation

Salary: $200-300 per week depending on experience and negotiated responsibilities

Hours: 5-10 hours per week

Reports to: Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee

Job Type: Part-time

Expected hours: No more than 8 per week
