Job Summary

The Director of Contemporary Music creatively shapes Lighthouse contemporary worship services and integrates contemporary music into the worship life of the congregation, coordinating adult and youth lay member involvement.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Director of Contemporary Music is expected to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:

Facilitate Contemporary Worship Music and Experiences

o Collaborate with the Director of Creative Arts and pastors to select and integrate music seamlessly into the flow of contemporary worship services, aligning with the theme, message, and liturgical season.

o Lead and oversee the contemporary music ministry, including selecting and arranging music for Lighthouse, youth worship and church-wide events.

o Direct the contemporary worship band consisting of congregation members and outside musicians and vocalists; hire musicians as needed to fill talent gaps and enhance the quality of music.

o Lead and coordinate adult and youth band rehearsals, selecting and arranging contemporary worship songs and other musical elements that facilitate worship and complement the message of the service.

o Coordinate the care and maintenance of church band instruments.

Ensure Technical Coordination

o Oversee the technical aspects of contemporary worship services, including sound, lighting, projection, and multimedia presentations, ensuring seamless integration and execution.

o Collaborate with the technical arts team and volunteers to ensure optimal sound quality, visual enhancements, and creative use of technology to enhance the worship experience.

o Ensure all charts, lyric sheets, and references recordings are captured in Planning Center.

o Assist with Planning Center updates and ProPresenter builds.

Duties and responsibilities may shift based on the needs of the church.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in music, worship arts, theology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

· Proven experience in music leadership for contemporary worship services and familiarity with contemporary worship music styles.

· Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire volunteers and collaborate effectively with pastors and staff.

· Experience with technical aspects of worship production, including sound reinforcement, lighting design, and multimedia presentations.

· Experience with Planning Center and ProPresenter preferred.

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to accommodate worship services and rehearsals.

· Commitment to the values and teachings of the United Methodist Church, with a passion for worship ministry and the spiritual formation of congregants.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Director of Contemporary Music has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

· Pastor of Spiritual Formation

· Pastor of Support

· Youth Pastor/Director
