Position Highlights:

The University of Arizona School of Music invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible faculty position in Piano Pedagogy at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024. The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate curriculum in Piano Pedagogy and Piano Performance, pursue scholarship and creative work within the context of an R1 university music program, and contribute to service within the university and the field at large.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide inclusive vision for piano pedagogy in the School of Music.
  2. Educate undergraduate and graduate-level students in piano pedagogy.
  3. Develop curriculum for a MM and DMA Minor in piano pedagogy including new graduate-level seminars in piano pedagogy.
  4. Lead community outreach initiatives that foster inclusive public engagement.
  5. Oversee the group piano curriculum and supervise graduate teaching assistants.
  6. Pursue an innovative research agenda in piano pedagogy leading to visibility at the national and international level.
  7. Serve on recital and graduate committees.
  8. Serve on School/College/University committees.
  9. Recruit and mentor students who represent a diverse demographic.
  10. Engage with professional service organizations.
  11. Lead and collaborate effectively with colleagues on events including community outreach and engagement, recruiting, hosting of festivals, and auditions.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. D.M.A or Ph.D. in Piano Pedagogy, Piano Performance, or related field (must be completed by the first day of the contract).
  2. Demonstrated success in teaching at the college-level incorporating responsiveness to different needs and strengths of students.
  3. Evidence of promising record of research in piano pedagogy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Earned doctorate specifically in the field of Piano Pedagogy.
  2. Experience recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students who represent a diverse demographic.
  3. Experience in curriculum development, using new pedagogies and classroom strategies to advance learning.
  4. Experience in overseeing graduate teaching assistants, establishing an inclusive, productive environment.
  5. Active research agenda with viability of national and international visibility.
