Northrop Grumman needs Radiation Effects & Survivability (RES) engineers to team up and help lead the RES design, development, and analysis of complex electronic products for space systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Radiation Analysis for satellite electronic systems

  • Testing radiation capability of electronic parts & components (e.g. low & prompt dose rates exposure, gamma irradiation, energetic electrons & protons, neutrons, and heavy ions bombardment)

  • Radiation predictions using SPENVIS, CREME96, OMERE, FastRad, Shieldose2, and other radiation analysis tools

  • Radiation effects on materials and degradation

  • Interface with multiple disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, EMI/EMC/ESD, contamination, procurement, subcontractors, manufacturing, and testing

  • Prepare and present technical reports for internal and external customers

  • Determine and/or derive radiation requirements and compliance in program meetings and design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.)

  • Analyze Single Event Effects and calculate rates for Burnouts, Latchups, Ruptures, Upsets and Transients in electronic circuits

  • Propose and validate circuit design mitigations to reduce or eliminate risk of Single Event Effects failure

  • Calculate Radiation Design Margins (RDM) analysis

  • Displacement Damage Dose impact on optoelectronics

  • Deep Charging (Internal Electron Flux) applied to spacecraft component boxes and external harnesses

  • Spacecraft radiation modeling & radiation shielding evaluation

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience, or Masters Degree

  • Senior Principal Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a STEM discipline with 9 years of experience, Masters Degree with 7 years experience or PhD with 4 years experience

  • Three years Radiation Effects & Survivability experience

  • Proficient with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Teams (MS 365)

  • Must have US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or closely related technical discipline

  • Knowledge of physics associated with radiation effects in semiconductor devices

  • Experience with radiation models & tools like AE8/AP8, IRENE, CRÈME96, OMERE, SPENVIS, etc.

  • Experience with defense and aerospace industry practices, and programmatic skills supporting BOE, RFP, ROM, CAM, WBS, Risk assessments.

  • CAD modeling experience with Creo Parametric

  • Current or Active Top Secret Clearance with existing SCI eligibility

Salary Range: $92,600 - $160,900

Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $199,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
