Annual Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00

Work-Site Type: Remote

Overview: We're hiring an experienced, motivated, and highly organized UX/UI Custom Applications Task Lead to join our team! In this leadership role, you’ll guide a talented group of designers and researchers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, user-centered solutions aligned with lab priorities.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee new work intake, manage the backlog, and coordinate project schedules to streamline workflows and ensure strategic prioritization.
  2. Facilitate weekly planning sessions and WIP reviews to ensure progress, alignment, and quality.
  3. Allocate tasks to designers and researchers, balancing workloads and optimizing resource utilization.
  4. Partner with cross-functional leadership to align on priorities, shared goals, process, and strategic initiatives.
  5. Report on project status, progress, and challenges to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with goals.
  6. Ensure the team’s output aligns with lab priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and consistency.
  7. Champion user-centered design and prioritize accessibility throughout the design lifecycle.
  8. Establish and enforce standards for usability, accessibility, and design system integration to maintain high-quality outcomes.
  9. Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. A BS degree in human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology, or a related field of study and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of aligned professional experience is required for consideration.
  2. Proven experience leading design/UX teams, coordinating workstreams, and managing priorities.
  3. Portfolio showcasing leadership in design, team collaboration, and impactful project outcomes.
  4. Expertise in Figma and user-centered design methodologies.
  5. Strong foundation in design principles, interaction design, responsive design, typography, and accessibility.
  6. Skilled in designing responsive, web-based interfaces and collaborating with developers on implementation.
  7. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and foster consensus.
  8. Experience working in agile development environments is a plus.
