Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Junior To Mid-Level Product Design And User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their intellectual property practice. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of legal expertise, engineering knowledge, and industry experience. The role requires someone adept at preparing and prosecuting patents for cutting-edge technologies in areas such as software, artificial intelligence, networking, and quantum technologies. Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications related to product design and user interface technologies, including software, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
- Draft high-quality legal documents, including patent applications, responses to Office Actions, and opinions.
- Manage client relationships and provide legal guidance on intellectual property strategy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and technical professionals, to capture innovative concepts.
- Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and infringement evaluations.
- Stay updated on developments in patent law, industry trends, and technological advancements.
- Engage in client meetings, offering technical insights and legal expertise on patent portfolios and prosecution strategies.
- Ensure compliance with the USPTO’s requirements and deadlines throughout the patent prosecution process.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
- Strong background in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields.
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Admission to the state bar or ability to qualify for admission in Missouri.
Preferred Experience:
- Patent work related to software technologies, including:
- Artificial intelligence technologies.
- Internet of Things (IoT), networking, and related technologies.
- Quantum computing technologies.
- Previous experience in drafting patents for emerging and complex technologies.
- Exposure to engineering environments, particularly in product design and user interfaces.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related technical field.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Admission to the USPTO.
- Admission to a State Bar (Missouri preferred, or ability to transfer).
