Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a talented and driven Junior to Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join their team in Denver, CO. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent preparation and prosecution, with a focus on software, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. This role requires a high level of academic achievement, engineering experience, and industry knowledge, with a commitment to providing top-tier legal services to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications related to software, artificial intelligence, IOT, networking, quantum technologies, and other emerging fields.
- Conduct patentability, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses for clients.
- Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and product designers to draft patent applications that accurately capture technological innovations.
- Work closely with clients to provide legal advice on intellectual property strategy and protection.
- Manage patent portfolios, ensuring proper maintenance and updating of patent records.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in patent law, especially those affecting software and AI technologies.
- Attend meetings and communicate regularly with clients to discuss their product design and patent needs.
- Conduct due diligence for mergers and acquisitions or licensing agreements related to patents and intellectual property.
- Participate in patent litigation support as needed, including drafting motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
- Expertise in drafting and prosecuting patents in one or more of the following areas:
- Software-related technologies
- Artificial intelligence
- Internet of Things (IoT) and networking technologies
- Quantum technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team of legal professionals.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Bachelor or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Certifications:
- Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Bar is required.
- Admission to the state Bar (preferably Colorado or eligibility for admission).
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong legal research and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in patent drafting software and other legal tools.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
