The Role: Product Design Patent Counsel or Patent Specialist | St. Louis, MO

We are seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Product Design Patent Counsel or Mid-Level Patent Specialist to join one of our prestigious clients' Product Design & User Interface Patent Prosecution Practice Group. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in a collaborative and innovative environment.

In this position, you will:
  • Draft and prosecute high-quality patent applications related to product design and user interfaces, software, AI, networking, and quantum technologies.
  • Work directly with inventors and clients to understand innovative concepts and advise on intellectual property strategy.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Collaborate with a team of experienced patent attorneys, agents, and support staff to manage complex portfolios.
  • Stay current on evolving patent laws and technological trends to provide strategic counsel to clients.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for this Product Design Patent Counsel or Patent Specialist role is a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional with a passion for technology and innovation.

Key attributes of the ideal candidate include:

  • Experience:

    • 2+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
    • Experience with software-related technologies, AI, IoT, networking, or quantum technologies is preferred.
  • Credentials for Counsel Candidates:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
    • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) required.
    • Active bar membership in good standing or eligibility for admission.
  • Credentials for Patent Specialist Candidates:

    • Admission to the USPTO required.
    • A degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field is required.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in drafting complex patent applications and legal documents.
    • Strong understanding of patentability, novelty, and inventive step principles.
  • Core Competencies:

    • Analytical Thinking: Ability to quickly understand technical inventions and develop strategic IP recommendations.

  • Competitive Compensation:

    • For Patent Counsel: $240,000 - $290,000, depending on experience.
    • For Patent Specialists: $110,000 - $190,000, depending on experience.
    • A discretionary performance-based bonus may also be available.
