Job Description Summary
The Makerspace is a collection of cross-disciplinary, educational studios which provide a safe and friendly learning environment, as well as an opportunity to work with tools and equipment from a variety of fields. The studios include facilities for digital fabrication, letterpress printing, book arts, woodworking, metalworking, sewing, and mold making.
Studio Assistants provide technical support for the Makerspace studios, including assisting studio users in safely operating equipment, monitoring tools, and maintaining a safe and positive studio environment. The ideal candidate should have familiarity with the Makerspace studios and their tools, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists studio users with safe use of equipment, materials, and tools.
- Monitors tools and equipment; ensures tools remain in designated work areas.
- Reports to work on time on the scheduled days, and remains in the shop while on duty.
- Opens and closes studios according to established hours of operations.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance within abilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Safety training is required and will be scheduled by the supervisor upon hiring.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must have some familiarity with the tools, equipment, and processes used in the Makerspace studios.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and in a courteous and professional manner to studio users, fellow studio assistants, and supervisors.
- Must be able to work with limited supervision.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
- Must be able to perform light work that includes adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
- Must be able to work in a noisy environment for extended durations.
Education and Experience
Minimum
- Must be enrolled as a student of Ringling College of Art and Design.
- Extensive experience or proficiency with the tools, equipment, and processes used in the Makerspace studios.
- Has taken classes that make use of the Makerspace studios.
