Senior Designer - Job Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly creative and passionate individual to join a dynamic and multi-disciplinary interior design studio as a Senior Designer. The ideal candidate will bring innovative design thinking, leadership skills, and a collaborative spirit to the role, mentoring junior staff and delivering exceptional projects. This position requires a positive attitude, strong problem-solving abilities, and a deep commitment to the craft of interior design.

Key Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited institution. Advanced certifications such as NCIDQ, AIA, or LEED® accreditation are a plus. Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in interior design or architecture, with a strong portfolio showcasing projects in hospitality, residential, or retail sectors. Experience with hotel guestroom design is required. Expertise in design principles, space planning, FF&E sourcing, and project management. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), SketchUp, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Knowledge of Revit, Rhino, Procreate, and analog hand sketching is advantageous. Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas effectively to clients, consultants, and team members.

Key Responsibilities: Design Leadership: Lead interior design projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with client needs, project schedules, and budget constraints. Mentor and supervise junior designers and interns, fostering professional growth and skill development. Collaborate directly with studio leadership to develop creative concepts, space planning strategies, and design solutions. Project Management: Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors. Manage project budgets and timelines, identifying scope changes and providing updates to studio leadership. Prepare and present project updates during weekly team meetings. Design Development: Conduct research to understand the project context, including location, culture, and competitive landscape. Develop design concepts, sketches, and narratives, working collaboratively with the project team through all design phases. Prepare detailed plans, elevations, millwork designs, and FF&E specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes and studio standards. Attend client presentations and lead design reviews as required. Construction Administration: Provide construction administration support, including site visits, RFI responses, and shop drawing reviews. Address design challenges promptly to maintain project quality and integrity. Team Collaboration & Studio Initiatives: Contribute to studio growth by participating in the development of standards, workshops, and team-building activities. Stay informed about industry trends, materials, and techniques, sharing knowledge with the team. Additional Requirements: Flexibility to attend evening calls for international projects as needed, with compensatory adjustments to work hours. Active participation in industry events and professional organizations (IIDA, ASID, NEWH, etc.).
