Description

Summary:

As a Duchesne Academy Music Teacher, you will inspire and educate students in grades 5-12 through a comprehensive music curriculum. You will be responsible for teaching general music classes and choir, while cultivating a love for music. Led by the Go als and Criteria of the Society of the Sacred Heart , your role will include planning and delivering engaging lessons, preparing students for performances, and integrating Catholic values into your teaching. You will also collaborate with colleagues to support the school's mission and participate in school events and activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create curriculum for music classes.
  • Teach a variety of genres and levels of music courses.
  • Create and lead an engaging series of performances and experiences for the MS/US Choirs. Currently this includes singing the National Anthem with St. Thomas High School at Astros games, the Duchesne Christmas and spring Pop Concerts, as well as participation in TSPMEA events.
  • Direct, attend, facilitate, and participate in concerts, plays, and general Fine Arts productions.
  • Schedule and lead rehearsals, as appropriate, in preparation for performances.
  • Work with the other music faculty and campus ministers to support our prayer services and Masses throughout the year.
  • In addition to these Fine Arts responsibilities, the Music Teacher will fulfill all the duties of a Middle/Upper School teacher, such as leading advisories, supervising field trips, etc.
  • Provide music programming appropriate to upper school assemblies, prayer services, and masses.
  • Plan, organize, and lead activities designed to promote academic, social, and emotional development in a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Create an emotionally responsive, caring, positive, and accepting environment supportive of the individual development of each child and family.
  • Provide piano accompaniment and teach piano.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on committees as required, seek, and attend professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluate each student's growth and performance.
  • Provide constructive feedback to parents.
  • Prepare and distribute report cards online.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Upper School.


Requirements

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Fine Arts or equivalent arts training in lieu of a Fine Arts degree.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of regular school hours to participate in rehearsals and performances.
  • High level of competency using technology.
  • State Teaching Certificate is a plus
  • Experience in a PreK - 12 environments, preferably in independent schools.
  • Strong references to convey teaching abilities.

Upon Hiring
  • Successful completion of criminal offenders' records information and sexual offender registry checks.
  • Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
  • Current CPR certification.
