Job Title: Elementary & Middle School Music Teacher

Job Summary:
East Lake Academy is seeking a creative, energetic, and dedicated Elementary and Middle School Music Teacher to join our team. The purpose of Musical education at East Lake Academy is to train the soul in the love of beauty in musical form and the worship of God through sacred music. The ideal candidate will inspire students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade through dynamic and engaging music instruction. This individual will be responsible for teaching music theory and fundamentals, instructing students in sacred music and directing the choir for school Masses, overseeing musical performances for school events (including the Christmas pageant), and contributing to the overall cultural and spiritual life of the school. The music teacher will maintain organization and order within the classroom, foster creativity, and collaborate effectively with fellow staff members.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Align with School Mission & Vision:
    • Foster an environment that is aligned with the Catholic teachings, values, and the mission of the school
    • Encourage spiritual growth and respect for all students, reflecting Catholic values in all aspects of teaching and interactions
    • Act as a role model of professionalism in a Catholic environment
    • Support the philosophy, policies, and goals of the school, and administration
  2. Choral Instruction for Liturgy:
    • Lead and direct the school choir in sacred music for liturgies, ensuring students are prepared to offer fitting and reverent praise of Our Lord in the Mass
    • Foster a joyful praise of God, integrating music into the spiritual life of the school
    • Prepare students vocally for Mass and other liturgical events throughout the year using the Source & Summit Missal and other resources which support fitting and reverent worship
  3. Musical Performances:
    • Oversee and coordinate any musical numbers for special school events such as the Christmas pageant, talent shows, and other community celebrations
    • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure smooth execution of musical performances
    • Encourage student participation and ensure performances are enjoyable, educational, and memorable
  4. Music Theory & Fundamentals Instruction:
    • Teach music theory, sight-reading, and basic music fundamentals to students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade
    • Introduce students to a variety of musical genres and instruments, fostering an appreciation for music
    • Develop engaging lesson plans that cater to different age groups and learning styles
    • Focus on imparting a love of beauty through instruction in the rich tradition of Catholic sacred music
  5. Classroom Organization & Order:
    • Maintain an organized and well-structured classroom environment conducive to learning
    • Establish and uphold clear expectations for student behavior and classroom procedures
    • Ensure that all materials, instruments, and resources are well-maintained and accessible for students
  6. Creativity & Engagement:
    • Bring creativity and enthusiasm to music lessons, making them fun, interactive, and engaging for students
    • Encourage students to explore their musical talents through hands-on activities, performances, and collaborative projects
    • Inspire students to develop a love for music and the arts
  7. Collaboration & Teamwork:
    • Work closely with other faculty and staff members to enhance the overall educational experience of the students
    • Participate in school committees, faculty meetings, and events as required
    • Foster a positive and cooperative team environment among staff and students
  8. Communication & Student Support:
    • Provide regular feedback to students on their progress in music and performance
    • Maintain open communication with parents regarding student achievements and areas for improvement
    • Offer additional support to students who need help with music concepts
  9. Professional Development:
    • Stay current with best practices in music education and continue to grow as a teacher through professional development opportunities
    • Integrate new teaching methods, technologies, and resources into the music curriculum
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or related field (required).
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Strong vocal and instrumental skills (experience with piano or other instruments is a plus).
  • Ability to teach music theory and fundamentals in a fun and engaging way.
  • Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
  • Creative, energetic, and passionate about teaching music.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Commitment to the school’s Catholic mission and values.
  • Familiarity with choral music and music for liturgical settings.
  • Strong communication skills.
