The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. RMA Administration provides centralized Finance, Information Technology, Donor Development, Mission Support, Human Resources and Facilities services to the ministries and departments of RMA.

Summary

The Grant Writer works with the grants and development teams on the overall grant solicitation and management needs of Rescue Mission Alliance. The position will work in concert with Rescue Mission Alliance's (RMA) staff to identify, apply to and manage a diverse audience of foundation funders. The Grant Writer shall be responsible for understanding the mission and trajectory of RMA and assisting the organization in achieving its overall revenue goals in part through a successful grant solicitation program.

This is a full-time, exempt position located in Oxnard at Corporate Headquarters and reports to the Vice President of Development & Engagement. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is benefits-eligible according to applicable guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work with current grant and development teams to develop and implement strategic grant funding plans.
  • Assist the Chief Development Officer (CDO) in implementation of grant funding program and achievement of grant funding goals.
  • Research and identify grant opportunities.
  • Write a sufficient number of grant requests to meet yearly fundraising goals as set by Chief Development Officer (CDO) in accordance with budget and capital needs.
  • Manage funder identification through multiple funding resources, including GrantStation, FDO, etc., pipeline management in GrantHub and relationship management data in Raisers Edge or other systems as the organization may require.
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
  • Maintain grant writing calendar for new and recurring proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and other related deadlines.
  • Provide regular internal reports to the CDO and other staff as required.
  • Utilize and maintain RMA information systems to manage the list of current and prospective funders and pipeline management activities.
  • Using Raiser's Edge maintain an extensive database of current and prospective funders.
  • Work directly with ministry directors and staff to respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Communicate and coordinate upcoming deadlines with appropriate staff as needed.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
  • Be willing to, as needed, engage in hands-on ministry within Rescue Mission Alliance.
  • Participate in major donor events as requested by Chief Development Officer.
  • Participates in creating a positive organizational culture.
  • Able to assist with other development team functions as needs require.
Qualifications
  • Must have a personal and consistent relationship with Jesus Christ and be active in a local Christian church.
  • Must have compatible theology on major issues of Rescue Mission Alliance Statement of Faith.
  • Must be committed to serving God and the body of Christ.
  • A humble team player who can assist, coach and come alongside a wide array of colleagues involved in the foundation relations process.
  • A strategic thinker who is proactive, positive and able to consider and constructively communication potential solutions to complex issues.
  • An excellent writer who can turn program data and disorganized information into inspiring stories.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple, often competing, deadlines and can tactfully help others do the same.
  • Strong, healthy interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven track record of at least 3+ years of successful grant solicitation experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and grants management systems.
  • A consistent learner who values professional development, industry relevance and organizational health and improvement.
  • BA or equivalent, non-profit management or related field.
  • Experience working in Non-Profits with distributed model.
  • Experience soliciting grants for national or international charities.

Work Environment

This position is located at RMA headquarters at 315 N A Street in Oxnard, California.
