Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, schedules, and supports librarians and paraprofessional staff in providing reference and research assistance to users.
- Instructs librarians in new databases, search techniques, web sources, and print sources.
- Ensures reference and research assistance is available as needed.
- Provides reference and research assistance to users in their research.
- Coordinates research appointments.
- Stay abreast of new tools (databases, print sources, etc.) for reference.
- Develops the information literacy-based instruction program to educate users in critical use of library resources. The program provides assignment-specific instruction, presentations, orientations, collaboration with faculty on research assignment design, and various instructional aids.
- Provides general library instruction for students, including INQ110/120 and Honors.
- Provides curriculum-centered instruction for subject discipline courses.
- Creates handouts, research guides, and other materials for instruction as needed.
- Performs collection development for the reference collection through the appropriate evaluation, selection, and deselection of materials.
- Reviews database subscriptions for content and use and keeps abreast of new databases.
- Reviews reference standing orders for content and use and keep abreast of new resources.
- Selects new, updates, and/or evaluates and deselect titles when appropriate with attention to course offerings.
- Supervises Interlibrary Loan Services
- Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.
- Keeps abreast of pertinent copyright laws.
- Monitors Copyright Clearance Center reports.
- Serves as back-up for the unit and/or cross-trains other staff to assist as needed.
- Serves as a liaison to assigned academic departments. Promotes library services, coordinates materials selection, and monitors assigned collection budgets. Reviews and updates the collections' condition, usage, and usefulness. Supports the faculty in course instruction. Works with assigned academic departments on collection reviews. May assist the Director with data generation for academic department program evaluations.
- Maintains knowledge of basic library functions to offer backup support.
- Continues to improve job-related skills and stay abreast of current developments.
- Assists with the development and evaluation of overall Library policies, procedures, and services.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in related field required.
- ALA-accredited MLS, MIS or equivalent advanced degree in library / information science
- Reference and instruction experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience with integrated library system software and discovery tools.
