Job Description:

Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY is seeking applications for a tenure track, Research, Instruction, & Outreach Librarian to join the faculty of Coulter Library. This role will play a key role in advancing the library's reference, instruction, and outreach initiatives. This position supports student success through innovative and effective teaching, robust research support, and collaborative campus engagement. Applicants must have a commitment to working positively with a diverse student population and should be patient, adaptable, and flexible.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate library outreach efforts and coordinate library representation in campus orientation events and collaborate with student services, faculty, and other campus programs.
  • Serve as library liaison to the School of Technology, Engineering, and Computing.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and campus organizations to promote library services and programs.
  • Contribute content to the library's website, social media, chat, and other platforms to engage and inform the campus community.

Instruction:

  • Serve as an instruction librarian, sharing responsibility for delivering and assessing the library's information literacy programs and support curricular information literacy initiatives and outcomes.
  • Design and deliver innovative face-to-face and online learning materials, such as lesson plans, tutorials, and learning objects, using best practices in teaching and instructional design.
  • Support instruction programs targeting first-year student success, including library orientations and other visiting groups.
  • Work closely with liaison faculty and campus partners to integrate and assess information literacy outcomes in courses and curricula.

Reference:

  • Participate and deliver research and reference services in collaboration with Coulter Librarians.
  • Prepare library guides, webpages, reference handouts, and other resources.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support the organization, cataloging, physical maintenance, and digitization of library archives and special collections.
  • Collaborate with departmental colleagues on library assessment efforts.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with trends in information literacy, teaching, and library services.
  • Engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to increase awareness and understanding within the library and campus community.
  • Participate in campus and faculty professional committees, cross-disciplinary initiatives, and strategic programs to contribute to college work.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Experience in teaching, reference, and outreach within an academic library setting. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to support teaching, learning, and research initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and traditional information sources and integrated library systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with online library technology (e.g., Springshare, LibApps, or similar tools) and skill with current library and educational technologies, and experience with Integrated Library Systems (Alma). Plus strong ability to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Experience developing library programs, processes, or services that support outreach efforts and student success.
  • Familiarity working with community college students and working with diverse populations of students, especially underrepresented students.
  • Familiarity with assessment practices in libraries and higher education.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, or similar).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered.

Additional Information:

  • Salary for Assistant Professor level is $57,938. This is a tenure track faculty position.
