Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!
Around here, we define the future.
At KBR we share one goal: to improve the world responsibly as a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers.
KBR is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to support the Dragonfly mission for KBR’s Science and Space Division. The Dragonfly Lander is a car-sized, nuclear-powered octocopter. It is scheduled to launch in 2026 and arrive at Titan in 2034. It will study that ocean world and collect scientific findings that could change our understanding of life in the universe. Titan is a cryogenic environment, making the thermal insulation and thermal testing development of this program extremely important. We're looking for help on two tasks: the first is foam, and the second is what we call the DTM, meaning the Development Test Module. Although different tasks, they are adjacent and collaborative.
The work will be performed at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD.
The Senior Mechanical Designer will be responsible for:
Generate requirements and test documentation.
Reviewing Spacecraft mechanical designs including the SC primary structure and component layout (e.g., electronics boxes, solar arrays, telecom antennas and equipment, deployables and mechanisms, routing systems, MGSE, testing and shipping and handling configuration assemblies, etc.)
Providing analysis and test documentation for CAD models and drawings for all hardware
Requirements for CAD modeling in Creo Parametric 10, with Windchill for PLM
Reviewing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) decisions for compliance
Collaboration with our engineering leads and our manufacturers to ensure compliance with requirements and DFMA
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Experience and strength in Creo Parametric
Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T specification
Candidate is expected to learn and follow Top-Down Design (TDD) methods
Education - High School diploma or equivalent
10 – 15 years of related professional work experience
History of working with spacecraft at APL, JPL, NASA Goddard Space Flight center, or another NASA center
Ability to provide guidance and expertise in mechanical design
Capability to organize and coordinate task level efforts including interfacing with mechanical and structural engineers
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and energetic environment
KBR Benefits
KBR offers a selection of competitive lifestyle benefits which could include 401K plan with company match, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, flexible spending account, disability, paid time off, or flexible work schedule.
