The University of Southern Maine invites applications for our new Social Media Manager & Creative Content Producer. The Office of Marketing and Brand Management (https://usm.maine.edu/office-of-marketing-and-brand-management/) is currently building a team with a focus on digitalization, storytelling, branding, and data-driven approaches to marketing strategy. We seek a creative thinker and storyteller that is passionate about the idea of working with our students and our USM greater community to help build our brand across social media channels in new and engaging ways! Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing, Enrollment Communication and Brand Strategy, the Social Media Manager & Creative Content Producer (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FDzT70nbI9z4WawB3ZGP28gN_t8BSREe/view?usp=sharing) will drive our real-time storytelling efforts across several main USM social media accounts such as Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/usouthernmaine/) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/USouthernMaine) , as well as strategically expand USM onto new storytelling platforms. You are a confident and creative content creator, but are also able to inspire and train the abilities in others – with skills in shaping engaging content in various formats from text, to photos, to short video formats. You will be an active member of the USM community, with visibility and a network across all of our campuses. You will drive social media calendars and track events happening across campuses. And you will build and manage a student media team that will broaden your reach in organic storytelling. Pay and Benefits: This is a full-time position with a starting annual salary up to $63,000. Location: This position will be based primarily on the Portland campus with occasional work on our Gorham and Lewiston campuses as needed. Potential to work remotely one day per week may be considered after the probationary period. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in media production, marketing, or communications or equivalent combination of education and experience (portfolio required). At least three (3) years of social media management or multimedia production experience (specific to social media). Native user of key social media channels – with experience in Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Snapchat, Threads, and other social media platform user experience is a plus. Experience using Adobe Creative Suite. Confident shooting and editing high quality content using a phone. (DSLRs will also be available for use but this position will often be posting in real-time so should be confident shooting content with a phone and editing using in-phone tools.) Alum of USM is a plus, but not required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: You are a people person and a natural networker, as a content creator you will need to inspire the USM community to want to share their stories and know where to find them. You are a collaborator as you will work in partnership with our Senior Multimedia Producer - building their work into your social media grids, as well as your student team. You will recruit, train, mentor, and send students out on assignment. You are creative and innovative visual storyteller with a strong aesthetic sensibility that can create within a brand standard – knowing when to lean into sophisticated and academic vs playful and fun across the goals and style of our various Social Media channels. You are a social media native, geeking out to the possibilities each channel can provide as a storytelling venue for USM and how to create or drive content unique to that channel and it’s goals/audience, as well as how to network out content across other venues, through collaborations, etc. You love a good brainstorm – keeping an eye out for good ideas and bringing innovation and collaboration to the room. You are organized and can balance multiple tasks at the same time, and can make decisions in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities, working across multiple projects and deadlines. You are a good communicator in writing as a task management system will be key to the team’s collaborations and driving student content. You enjoy the evolution of design based on stakeholder and team feedback - taking edits and feedback constructively and with good-will. You can constructively give helpful and clear feedback, inspiration, and training/help to those working within the university social media channels not owned by the Marketing Department. Ability to learn-on-the go and be self-taught, take initiative, and work autonomously while working in a strong team environment.
