The Office of Marketing and Brand Management is currently building a team with a focus on digitalization, storytelling, branding, and data-driven approaches to marketing strategy. We seek an innovative designer that is comfortable working in print, but that has a passion for designing towards digital - with an eagerness to stay ahead of the curve and continue to learn and harness new skills and tools as design needs evolve in this ever changing marketing landscape.
As the USM Graphic Designer, you will take the lead on all design initiatives across the organization. Collaborating closely with the Senior Director and the team, you will elevate the USM brand and produce compelling design content tailored to diverse needs and audiences. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in bringing the brand to life for administrators working with our brand across the institution-developing comprehensive brand style guides, conducting staff training sessions, and optimizing the university's image bank to enhance its visual identity and impact.
Pay and Benefits: This is a full-time position with a starting annual salary up to $56,000. Location: This position will be based primarily on the Portland campus with occasional work on our Gorham and Lewiston campuses as needed. Potential to work remotely one day per week may be considered after the probationary period.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or certificate in graphic design or equivalent combination of education and experience (portfolio required).
- Experienced user of the Adobe Creative Suite - namely Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, and Lightroom.
- Knowledge of designing across digital and print and the various specifications needed for each, as well as designing video motion graphics.
- Experience in branding and licensing is ideal.
- Experience in organizing and managing an image bank is ideal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- You are confident in creating designs across a spectrum of types - from print catalogs to digital.
- You are confident at driving and evolving a brand standard alongside the Senior Director of Marketing and leadership.
- You are creative and innovative with a strong aesthetic sensibility and a passion for storytelling visually, but can also live within a brand standard - knowing when to lean sophisticated and academic vs playful and fun.
- You love a good brainstorm - keeping an eye out for good ideas and bringing innovation and collaboration to the room.
- You have strong attention and eye for the details. You enjoy keeping graphic and image catalogs well organized and accessible, not only for yourself but for stakeholders.
- You are agile with the ability to balance multiple tasks at the same time, and can make decisions in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities, working across multiple deadlines.
- You are a good communicator in writing as a task management system will be key to the team's collaborations.
- You enjoy the evolution of design based on stakeholder and team feedback - taking edits and feedback constructively and with good-will. And in return, can constructively give helpful and clear feedback, training and mentorship to those working within the university brand-standards that are not trained designers.
- Ability to learn-on-the go and be self-taught and follow new design and tool trends, take initiative, and work autonomously while working in a strong team environment.
