Programmer, Writer
Location: Remote - PST preferred - if not in PST, would work PST hours

Note: MUST be legally authorized to work in the United States.
This role is NOT open to 3rd party providers.

SUMMARY:
  • The main function of a Technical Writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication
Other Responsibilities:
  • Collection/Documentation of documentation requirements (use case, audience, objective of documentation prior to creation/development stage).
  • Create/Draft/Maintain technical documentation (further details noted in 'types of technical documents within scope).
  • Editorial Review and Co-Collaboration with subject matter experts to produce technical documentation that has high levels of clarity and actionability.
  • Accountable for evaluating/monitoring document readiness for broad consumption and/or launch.
  • Create/Draft/Maintain marketing content and communication templates related to program delivery.
Typical Day in the Role:
  • Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is to write technical guides based on existing work. Domain Subject Matter Experts (SME) draft the information, and this role will be responsible for creating useable guides from the information
  • Key Projects: This role will contribute to technical instructional guide writing. They will work on current and backlogged guides
  • Typical Task Breakdown and Operating Rhythm: The role will consist of 10% collaboration 10% preparation/review with 80% technical writing

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or English, Journalism, Communications
  • 10+ years' experience required
  • Experience in in creating documentation for a technical audience
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Ability to read some programming code
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience with Technology
  • Types of technical documents within scope: software manuals, software learning modules, technical troubleshooting guides, installation guides, API documentation, release notes
  • Technology involved in technical document creation and maintenance: EngHub, SharePoint, ICM, AzureDevOps, Word

Candidate Requirements:
  • Required Candidate Preparation: **Candidates should submit a writing sample in addition to their resume. **Years of Experience Required: 10/more overall years of experience in the field
  • Degrees or Certifications Required: A Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required to be eligible for this role
  • Disqualifiers: Candidates with no technical writing background will not be eligible for the role
  • Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain cloud services experience, strong technical communication experience, and instruction manual drafting experience
  • Performance Indicators: Performance will be assessed based on meeting deadlines, and adhering to timelines, as well as quality of outcome - can we give the completed work a developer with 3-5 years' experience and they would be able to autonomously execute the steps successfully

  • Minimum 10 years' experience with cloud or other tech
  • Minimum 10 years' experience with technical writing/communications
  • Minimum 10 years' experience with manual/instructional writing
