Bridgewater Consulting Group is looking for Electric Utility Designers to work in San Antonio, TX for major projects in the area. The candidate will need to be located in the San Antonio, TX area or willing to relocate to the San Antonio, TX area.

Position Overview: The Electric Utility Designer / Service Planner is responsible for designing and planning electrical distribution systems, ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This role involves collaborating with engineers, utility crews, and stakeholders to develop plans for electrical service connections, system improvements, and new installations. We need Designers for the following Projects. Tracts, apartments, condos, commercial strip malls, pole replacements, street widening, Overhead Underground conversion, etc. Manufacturing, high-rise buildings, major shopping centers or malls, Distribution System planning. Reconductor, new circuits, new substations, etc

Key Responsibilities: Design and Planning: Prepare detailed electrical system designs for new utility services, upgrades, and replacements, including power distribution, transformers, substations, and service lines. Ensure designs comply with local codes, utility standards, and industry regulations. Conduct site surveys and analyze project specifications to determine the best solutions for new service connections and electrical infrastructure. Project Coordination: Coordinate with contractors, field crews, and other departments to facilitate the implementation of designs and service plans. Support project scheduling, cost estimates, and resource allocation for various utility projects. Monitor ongoing projects to ensure they align with design specifications and timelines. Customer Interaction: Act as a point of contact for customers requesting new electrical services or modifications to existing services. Provide technical support and guidance to customers, addressing inquiries regarding service installation, upgrades, or maintenance. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of designs, project progress, and service requests. Prepare reports, including design plans, load calculations, and cost estimates, for management review. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with changes in local, state, and federal electrical codes and safety standards. Ensure all designs and implementations adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with engineering teams, field crews, contractors, and local government authorities to address issues, resolve conflicts, and achieve project goals. Communicate clearly with stakeholders regarding project timelines, expectations, and potential delays.

Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or a related field preferred. Experience: 4+ years of experience in utility design, electrical engineering, or service planning within the utility industry. Experience with electrical load calculations, system design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS tools), and utility modeling software. Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, power lines, substations, transformers, and other related components. Familiarity with utility industry standards, safety codes, and electrical regulations (e.g., NEC, NESC). Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and utility design software (e.g., Milsoft, Schneider Electric). Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with customers, contractors, and cross-functional teams. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Certifications (Preferred): Certification in electrical design or a related field (e.g., NICET, PMP). Knowledge of industry-specific software and design tools.

Working Conditions: Full-time position, with potential for some overtime depending on project needs. Primarily office-based work, with occasional field visits to job sites. Travel to client locations and project sites may be required. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for long periods and work on a computer. Occasional physical site visits that may involve light lifting, walking, or standing for extended periods.
