FWS - Graphic Designer, Photographer & Videographer

The New School is seeking an experienced student graphic designer, photographer, and videographer to work on a wide array of projects that will highlight and strengthen programs and services for students. Responsibilities include designing promotional materials (social media graphics, digital flyers, newsletter images, etc.), taking photos during programs, creating video montages, and storytelling of the student experience.

Applicants should anticipate working 5-10 hours per week during the academic year from approximately September 2024 to May 2025. Payment is $18/hour through their Federal Work Study award. This position is predominantly in-person in Fanton Hall (72 5th Ave, New York, NY 10011), with some meetings over virtual video calls.

Responsibilities:

  • Design graphics for projects including but not limited to brand identity, posters, event graphics, and more.
  • Create engaging and creative social media video and photo content.
  • Script writing, filming, and editing high-quality video for various platforms.
  • Take high-quality photos and videos that highlight, recap, and promote various endeavors and events.
  • Support the Student Social Media team.
  • Participate in team discussions about campaigns and strategies.

Work Mode: Hybrid/Split – Employees have a consistent percentage of time on campus (e.g., 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.

Salary Range: Pay rate: $18/hour.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current full-time New School student.
  • Progress toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in graphic or communication design or equivalent work experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (mainly InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, and Photoshop), Canva, Microsoft Office, and G Suite.
  • Experience shooting and editing high-quality photos and videos.
  • Commitment to inclusivity and social justice and an understanding of intersectionality and universally accessible design.
  • Experience in the creative process, including applying feedback and providing revisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with The New School’s branding and style guides to create coherent collateral across Student Success.
