Position/Title:
Radio Staff Announcer/News Editor
Full-Time/ hourly position – EEO/AA

Job Summary: Radio Announcer/Host on shows such as Morning Edition, Local Classical Music, All Things Considered and weekend programming as scheduled by the Program Director. KEDT’s format is a mix of NPR and local news, classical music and various Public Radio programs. The station has a strong focus on community engagement, local news and information.

Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as assigned by Program Director as primary host of Morning Edition, All Things Considered/Classical Music or other On-Air radio shifts.
  2. Prepares local newscasts/assists with preparation of KEDT Midday Report/News series.
  3. Fills in as substitute host on other programs, as needed. Agrees to be ON-CALL during overnight and weekend hours, when required.
  4. Assists with other radio station operations, such as setting the Automation, Production, On-Air Promos and Station Breaks.
  5. Assists in preparation and execution of On-Air Membership campaigns and other fundraising functions.
  6. Represents KEDT-FM and KEDT-TV at station involved community events.
  7. Assists Program Director in archiving and scheduling of programs.
  8. Research and development of newscasts and reports.
  9. Assists in writing scripts for promos and Underwriting announcements.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by Program Director.
  11. Work as required by General Manager to provide critical news and information before, during and following disasters and emergencies.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 1 year on-air broadcast experience, board operations and radio production.
  2. Minimum of a College Associates Degree.
  3. Formal journalism training and experience preferred.
  4. Working knowledge of foreign languages and pronunciations helpful, especially Spanish.
  5. Excellent communications and writing skills.
  6. Strong organizational skills and ability to complete a variety of tasks on-time.
  7. Strong people skills and ability to interact with the public, volunteers and staff.
  8. Flexible to work different schedules as required and arrive on time.
  9. Working knowledge of computers and computer software.
  10. Working knowledge of Public Radio Programs, practices and procedures is a plus.
  11. Working knowledge of FCC requirements and regulations regarding Public Radio.
  12. On-air fundraising experience and Knowledge of Classical Music is a plus.
  13. Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  14. Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening EEO/AA.
