Scope of Job:
The COFA is planning a new BFA in film production. The Theatre Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applications for an assistant professor of film production (tenure track) to start Fall 2025. The department is looking to provide a solid technical production background for our film track students, teaching them the valuable skills needed to secure a working position in the film industry in the areas of production and postproduction. Early teaching emphasis will be in the editing area, with the chosen candidate expanding their area to include basic cinematography and sound courses. The successful candidate will need to have a record of production/creative work that specifically illustrates their technical film skills. The current teaching load includes teaching courses in our film video track, including but not limited to:
- Film and Video Editing I
- Film and Video Editing II
- Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced Film and Video Production
- Creating new courses in post-production, cinematography, and sound.
- Other courses in film as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of the College.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Working as or with the coordinator for the film track area.
- Assisting students with all aspects of film projects.
- Maintaining office hours.
- Student advising and recruitment.
- Participation in departmental/college and university committees.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master of Fine Arts in Film Production or related area from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated potential for high-level scholarly/artistic achievement.
- Strong background in all forms of editing software, particularly Adobe Premier, After Effects, and Audition.
- Well versed in the fundamentals of cinematography and sound production.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years teaching experience at the college/university level and/or professional experience in the film industry.
- Experience in all areas of post-production.
- Professional credits and membership in professional organizations/unions.
