The Adjunct Faculty – English and Literature, Undergraduate Online position is a part-time position, responsible to provide excellence in teaching through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals teaching undergraduate, online courses during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

  • The University of Northwestern – St. Paul is authorized to hire in the following states: CO, IA, IL, KS, MN, MO ND, NE, SD, TN, TX, WI and WY.

What will I do in this position?

Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate course in area of focus with a regular and consistent online presence.
  • Respond to student questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Grade student work in a timely manner.
  • Successfully complete Best Practices in Online Teaching training modules.
  • Because our community is a significant part of our mission and the development of our students, all employees act as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by actively partnering with colleagues of the University to disciple students helping them grow intellectually and spiritually and partnering with Northwestern Media to lead people to Christ and nurture believers to become mature in their faith.
What will it take to succeed in this position?

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree required with at least 18 graduate-level credits in the discipline applied to teach, for most courses
  • Bachelor’s degree may meet minimum qualifications for teaching certain technology courses depending upon equivalent experience
  • Previous teaching experience with online instruction preferred
  • Teaching assignments are available on an as needed basis, dependent upon class size and semester
  • Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to integrate Christian worldview into classroom instruction
  • Skilled in interacting with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency including use of online teaching platform (Faculty member is responsible for providing his/her own computer and adequate internet connection)
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
Work Environment:
The work environment involves working for a suburban, Christian university alongside those with a demonstrated commitment and personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and values of the University and an agreement to abide by all University policies. Adjunct Faculty in this position teach in an online capacity.
