About the Position:

The Communications and Multimedia Specialist supports the public safety mission of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office by planning, developing, and implementing communications initiatives using a variety of media and materials. This position performs technical work in the production of video, photo, and audio presentations and/or graphic design used for education and storytelling purposes and facilitates effective internal and external communications involving MCSO employees, programs, initiatives, and events.

Position Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: One (1) year of work experience in communications, multimedia, video production, or marketing.

OR

  • Combined education and experience qualifications: Other combinations of postgraduate degrees or professional level-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Our Preferred Candidate has:

  • Two (2) years of experience in communications and/or marketing or a related field.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative programs (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere).
  • Experience working in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Essential Job Tasks:

  • Plans, solicits, writes, designs, and manages content for a variety of internal and external communications media.
  • Ensures MCSO initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
  • Creates internal and external communications and ensures consistency of messaging across all media.
  • Develops a creative strategy for MCSO social media channels.
  • Monitors and responds to digital and social media sites to promote MCSO.
  • Shoots and edits videos and still pictures; writes stories that can be produced internally and externally.
  • Operates cameras, lighting, and audio equipment during live events.
  • Maintains a library of Office events in varied formats.
  • Designs, assembles, and publishes external newsletters for MCSO constituents and stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of marketing, public relations, and basic communication techniques.
  • Skill in producing graphic designs, web pages, newsletters, brochures, and other materials.
  • Ability to comprehend complex information and communicate effectively to varied audiences.
