Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, Harleton, TX, United States, 75651

Overall Purpose:

In dependence on God, the overarching purpose of each HBC intern is to wholeheartedly glorify God, by loving Jesus, loving others, and serving well while leading us, as a church, to minister effectively through the cheerful and loving exercise of his/her spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities. The intern shall maintain a spirit of love, cooperation, and willingness to serve in accordance with the church’s overall mission of making disciples, and shall always seek to foster healthy ministries that are rooted in the Word of God and in the Gospel, specifically.

Reports To:

All HBC interns will be assigned a specific elder or ministry leader to whom he/she will directly report. The intern will serve under the general oversight of the elders and will report indirectly to them. Interns are expected to effectively cooperate within their immediate ministry contexts with other church leaders and with volunteer workers, and within the church body as a whole. This cooperative unity is essential in maintaining, growing, and doing wholistic, cohesive, and effective ministry within the life of Harleton Baptist Church.

Qualifications:

  • The intern will sustain a vital, growing relationship with the Lord through personal and corporate worship, study of God’s Word, prayer, and regular ongoing fellowship.
  • The intern will seek to undertake his/her duties in the power of the Holy Spirit, undergirded with prayer, guided by the Scriptures, and manifesting the character of Christ for the glory of God.
  • While ensuring that his/her first loyalty is to God and the Word, the intern will support the leadership of the church. The intern will be a team-player who strives to maintain positive and fruitful relationships with HBC employees, members, and leaders.
  • The intern will strictly maintain appropriate confidentiality in all matters that are of a confidential nature.
  • The intern will abide by and enforce in his/her ministry area the most current adopted policies and procedures of Harleton Baptist Church.
  • The intern must be able to satisfactorily pass a background check prior to employment with HBC.

Expectations:

  • Must understand, support, and protect Harleton Baptist Church’s mission, vision, and unity.
  • Must believe and live in accordance with historic, evangelical Christian doctrine as expressed in the Statement of Faith of Harleton Baptist Church.
  • Must have an encouraging, positive attitude, strong relational skills, and be a dependable, service-minded leader.

Responsibilities of Worship Ministry Interns:

  • Work to fulfill the comprehensive vision of the Worship Ministry as communicated by the Senior Pastor.
  • Meet and communicate regularly and timely with the Pastor and the volunteer praise team members.
  • Assist in developing a dynamic worship ministry team and in coordinating/staffing those team members for practices and worship services.
  • Assist the Senior Pastor in planning Christ-exalting worship services.
  • Assist the Pastor and the Student Ministry Team in developing and implementing policies that ensure that those leading in worship are drawing people to Christ rather than scattering people away from Christ in the lives that they are living outside of the corporate worship setting.
  • Actively serve/participate in other ministry areas/programs of the church.

Brief Philosophy of Congregational Worship in Song:

  • Songs should be based in Scripture, doctrinally rich, and theologically sound, and should strive to serve the text of the sermon.
  • Emotionalism and “creating an atmosphere” should be minimalized, while authentic, Spirit-wrought, Word-rooted, Christ-exalting, God-honoring emotions should be welcomed.
  • A full-spectrum of biblical, heart-worship that covers a wide array of real-life expressions, from rejoicing on one end of the spectrum to lament on the other end of the spectrum, with everything in between, should be maintained.
  • Congregational singing should be valued far above “special music.” The songs we sing are to God, but they are also to and for one another in that they are for the encouragement of the body.
  • Those leading in worship ought to be keenly focused on leading others to worship by worshiping in earnest themselves, by drawing attention to particular lyrics, and by being keenly invested in the lives of those whom they are leading.

Compensation & Promotion:

  • HBC Interns will be remunerated for their service to HBC. Remuneration may be hourly or salary, and those terms will be clearly communicated prior to service.
  • Should the Lord will, HBC interns will be considered for various vocational opportunities within HBC that would be considered promotions. Promotion opportunities could include such things as: part-time vocational positions or full-time vocational/ministerial positions.
