Description of Work Unit
This position is on the Social and Digital Media team, a unit within the Division of Marketing and Communications (MarComm). MarComm provides central brand marketing, news and media relations, social media, design, photography, video production, and community and event relations for the university community.
The Social and Digital Media team at Colorado State University sets the strategic direction for social media at Colorado State. The team manages CSU’s institutional social media accounts and works with communications coordinators across campus as they manage their own social networks. The team is also home to MarComm’s video producers and photographers.
Position Summary
Colorado State University seeks an innovative digital media creative to serve as a Podcast Producer. The producer is responsible for helping advance CSU’s brand through the development and implementation of podcast content that reaches a diverse set of audiences across the state, nation, and world.
We’re looking for a strong digital producer who will build out MarComm’s podcast content portfolio including launching new podcast concepts, producing President Parsons’ The Next 150 podcast, and managing MarComm’s in-house podcast recording studio with an eye towards making that space available for campus partners to record their podcasts.
The producer will oversee all aspects of MarComm’s podcast production needs, from concept to final product, ensuring alignment with the University’s brand and institutional priorities. This position will collaborate closely with teams across MarComm, the President’s Office, and campus partners to highlight stories that showcase the university’s academic excellence, research initiatives, and community impact.
The ideal candidate will have end-to-end experience bringing podcasts to life through episode development and production to distribution and marketing. Further, the ideal candidate enjoys bringing new ideas to the table, is exceptionally organized and can manage multiple projects at once, is up to date on podcast trends, and will thrive in a collaborative environment. We’re looking for someone who will bring a mix of technical and creative expertise and will be a key driver to effectively position and promote Colorado State through podcasts.
Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, media production, or related field.
- Two years of professional experience in podcast production.
- Experience in multimedia asset creation (photo, video, audio, graphic design) as demonstrated in a digital portfolio.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Experience in audio recording and editing software (Adobe Audition, Audacity, RodecasterPro, etc.).
- Experience with RodecasterPro sound boards.
- Experience in video production.
- Ability to manage and organize many projects simultaneously.
- Experience with SEO for scriptwriting and promotional copy.
- Experience with podcast distribution platforms (Transistor, Apple, Spotify, Google, etc.).
- Proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, InDesign) as demonstrated in a digital portfolio.
- Familiarity with interactive content management systems such as Airtable.

Job Duty Categories and Responsibilities
- Podcast Development and Production
- Lead the end-to-end production of podcasts, including conceptualizing ideas, researching topics, coordinating guests, scripting, recording, editing, and distributing episodes.
- Collaborate with MarComm teams to develop podcast concepts and strategies that align with the University’s brand and communication goals.
- Ensure high-quality audio production standards are met, including sound design, mixing, and mastering.
- Assist with the video recording and editing of podcast content.
- Lead in the creation and distribution of visual media assets for promotional material on social media (videos, photos, graphic design pieces, written copy, etc.).
- Create script, show notes, episode descriptions, and supplementary content to support each podcast release.
- Manage content calendar coordination.
- Within a team environment, operate podcast recording equipment, including microphones, audio interfaces, cameras, and lights.
- Project Management
- Oversee the uploading and distribution of podcasts to various platforms, ensuring optimal metadata and SEO practices are applied.
- Manage timelines, content calendars, and resources for multiple podcast projects simultaneously.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including production schedules, episode outlines, and content approvals.
- Ensure all podcast content adheres to the University’s brand guidelines.
- Monitor podcast analytics and listener feedback, using data to refine and improve future content.
- Manage Recording Studio, University-Wide Collaboration and Assistance
- Manage and maintain MarComm’s podcast recording studio.
- Develop a framework for campus partners to utilize the studio to record their podcast.
- Provide podcast consultation for the University community as needed.
