Publisher - Effingham and Shelbyville, IL

The Effingham Daily News and the Shelbyville Daily Union are seeking a high-energy, experienced newspaper professional who can help lead our teams with vigor and vision. The Effingham Daily News is a six-day per week 10,000 circulation newspaper that serves a six-county area, and the Shelbyville Daily Union publishes twice weekly with nearly 2,000 circulation in Central Illinois.

Publisher candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills along with the leadership needed to guide the staff. The successful applicant will work to ensure profitability of each product line by achieving both revenue and expense targets. Key responsibilities include:

1. Seeking out and implementing efficient and effective operations through all departments.
2. Continually challenging situations and making intelligent changes as needed to foster a successful environment.
3. Developing, recommending, and implementing marketing strategies to maximize the newspapers’ share of the total market.
4. Providing timely recognition of trends in the market to maximize gains and/or minimize losses resulting from such trends.

This person will need to be a proven leader with a track record of meeting revenue targets along with effective expense management.

Qualified candidates will have management experience in newspaper, organizational and interpersonal skills with a creative approach in revenue development and emphasis on customer service.
