Community-minded reporter needed - Hearst Illinois | Journal-Courier

The Journal-Courier in Jacksonville, Illinois, is looking for a reporter/content producer who has both a nose for news and a respect for community journalism for our Hearst-owned daily newspaper near the state capital.

The area offers a unique blend of smaller-town life with plenty of stories for a reporter to sink his or her teeth into. The city has three colleges, its own symphony and a vibrant arts scene. Jacksonville is about two hours from St. Louis and four hours from Chicago.

The ideal person will be a storyteller who can treat news, features, sports and other events with equal passion; one who realizes the importance of multimedia and social news reporting; and who recognizes a newsroom is both individuals and a team.

Initiative, innovation and desire to work closely with editors and other reporters to make us the best we can be every day are required. Proven strength in writing and photography required. Multimedia work a plus.

Responsibilities:

1. Report and produce news stories for the Journal-Courier.
2. Collaborate with editors and fellow reporters.
3. Engage with the community to identify newsworthy events.
4. Utilize multimedia tools for storytelling.

Qualifications:

1. Strong writing and photography skills.
2. Experience in multimedia journalism is a plus.
3. Ability to work in a team environment.
