ILLINOIS PRESS ASSOCIATION is hiring: Sports Writer in Springfield

The Journal-Courier in Jacksonville, Illinois, is looking for a community-minded sports writer who can also take photos and shoot video as needed.

We cover some of the best small-school teams in the state, along with two Division III colleges, and a variety of sporting events and activities in central Illinois.

The ideal candidate will be someone able to come up with enterprise news and feature stories that go beyond the scheduled games and can also take compelling photos and sometimes shoot and edit video to accompany print copy.

Responsibilities:

1. Write enterprise news and feature stories.
2. Take compelling photos and shoot/edit video.
3. Engage with social media and web platforms for sourcing and reader engagement.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field.
2. Proficient in Associated Press style and proper grammar.
3. Good interviewing skills.
4. Recent college graduates will be considered.
5. Time management and ability to work under deadlines.
6. Knowledge of social media and web platforms is a plus.
