Hardware
At Apple, we work every single day to craft products that enrich people’s lives. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? As a member of our Wireless Silicon Design group, you will have an outstanding and exciting opportunity to build our future products that will delight and encourage millions of Apple’s customers every single day! Would you like to join Apple’s growing wireless silicon development team? Our wireless SOC organization is responsible for all aspects of wireless silicon development, taking care of challenges from the complex usages, more demanding performances, and reliabilities to enable emerging wireless applications and products. Our goals are to come up with innovative architectures and protocols, integrate systems and algorithms with employing advanced technologies to introduce our innovative products, providing evolutions to our lives.
In this technical role, you will be at the center of a silicon design group, with a critical impact on radio architecture, radio system performance, system integration, and physical layer algorithms designs for innovative wireless communication systems. You will develop system models of RF/analog design, radio chain modeling, integrated radio interaction models, dynamic behavior models, and assess associated impairments. You will evaluate radio performance on various application scenarios, as well as work on architecting various calibration and correction methods for radio impairments. The role requires collaboration with HW digital designers and architects, products, Radio, analog designers, and SW engineers, to define and specify the wireless systems. You will work with digital designers to realize different physical and/or radio compensation algorithms, and with firmware designers to realize different physical/radio compensation algorithms with high-efficiency software implementation. You will also bring up, test, characterize, and optimize real silicon in the lab to production qualities.
Description
In this role, core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design radio models for the wireless communication system, RF/circuits impairments.
- Design methods/algorithms to alleviate those impairments by calibration, pre-equalization, canceller, and/or pre-distortion techniques.
- Evaluate radio performance in different scenarios by quantitative analysis and link simulation.
- Work with radio designers to come up with state-of-the-art radio architecture.
- Work with digital designers to realize PHY/radio algorithms with power and area-efficient digital implementations.
- Work with firmware designers to realize PHY/radio algorithms with high efficiency software implementation, and possibly with hardware acceleration.
- Responsibility for bringing up, testing, characterizing, and optimizing real silicon in the lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- BSEE with 3+ years of relevant experience required.
- Understanding of RF and analog components/modules composed of wireless communication systems, the possible impairments from those components, and the corresponding calibration and impairment reduction methods/algorithms is essential.
- Proven track record of RF calibration algorithm for RF impairments.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
- Hands-on experience on lab testing & characterization, such as spectrum analyzer, signal generator, signal analyzer, power meter, etc.
Key Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- MSEE/PhD with relevant experience.
- Understanding of communication theory, information theory, & signal processing related algorithms design.
- Analytical capability to develop the best-in-class solution in terms of performance, power, and area for the meaningful issues of physical layer design.
- Knowledge in existing wireless communication protocols: Cellular technologies (5G-NR/LTE/WCDMA/GSM), WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be and ad/ay) or Bluetooth/BLE.
- Circuit design experience or knowledge.
