POLITICO is seeking an experienced reporter to lead our coverage of the health care industry’s relationship with Congress and the Trump administration.

This beat will focus on how health insurers, drug makers, hospitals and other major industry groups are seeking to influence Washington at a time when a new and disruptive cast of power players is taking the stage. You will chronicle how an industry that accounts for almost a fifth of the nation’s economy will deal with skeptical officials who are questioning its fundamental business practices and structure – and even long-accepted norms of best practices in medicine, such as vaccines.

We’re looking for an enterprising, persistent journalist with deep curiosity, excellent news judgment and a history of revelatory storytelling. You should be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues on our large health care team and across the newsroom on a storyline that will be central to politics and policy in the coming years.

At least five years of professional journalism experience is required, with a strong track record of delivering frequent scoops and high-impact enterprise. Please include in your application a resume, a cover letter summarizing your interest and qualifications for the beat and at least five journalistic writing samples (preferably PDFs or publicly accessible links).
