The Random House publicity department is currently seeking a Publicist to join the Del Rey Books team. This position will report to the Del Rey Publicity Manager, under the direction of the VP Senior Director of Publicity & Marketing at Random House Worlds. This role is the ideal position for a voracious reader of genre fiction who has an understanding of the pop culture space. Additional opportunities to work on titles across sister imprints Random House Worlds and Inklore, publishing licensed pop culture fiction and pop comics respectively, are possible.

Part of the Random House Worlds portfolio of genre and pop culture-focused imprints at the Random House Publishing Group, Del Rey Books was founded in 1977 and is the world's foremost publisher of fantasy, science fiction, fantasy-romance, and horror.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes publicity campaigns for multiple authors, creators, and brands.
  • Provides high-touch author care and attentive communication with authors, agents, and internal publishing team.
  • Develops, researches, and maintains strong relationships with national, online, podcast, and local media contacts.
  • Writes creative and impactful press materials and pitches.
  • Attends pop-culture conventions.
  • Strategizes and executes impactful book tours for major authors.
  • Preps authors for media interviews and events.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in book publicity
  • Strong verbal and written communication and pitching skills
  • Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts, notably in science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, and pop culture spaces
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues
  • Experience and comfort presenting in front of large groups including internal meetings
  • A motivated self-starter, strategic thinker and team player
  • An avid reader of genre fiction who enjoys participating in fandom and the pop culture zeitgeist
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; fluency in key publicity tools including Muck Rack
  • Able to travel to conventions and other events as needed


The salary for this position is $66,500.00. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
