The University Videographer/Photographer is a full-time position responsible for creatively capturing the Millikin University experience in order to tell the Millikin story. This position will work in collaboration with the Marketing & Media Relations team to enhance and improve the Millikin brand by providing consistent and high-quality photo and video in support of the University’s initiatives and goals. The Videographer/Photographer primarily focuses on academic, campus, cultural and student activities to promote the University to prospective students, parents, alumni and friends through a variety of marketing platforms like the University website, news, digital and print collateral for major events, advertising, social media, print publications and more. This position requires expert-level skills in both video and photo editing for brand, creativity, key messaging, and strategic alignment to assignment goals. This role is also responsible for the maintenance and organization of creative assets, production and computer equipment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Marketing & Media Relations is responsible for telling the Millikin story. The department, composed of highly skilled communicators and marketing professionals, drives awareness and support for the University, strengthens and safeguards the brand, and delivers important, timely information to the Millikin community and external partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The University Videographer/Photographer serves as the primary photographer and videographer for Millikin University, producing photos and videos as strategically identified by the Marketing & Media Relations department.
  • Assembles and produces content for a variety of media, including for YouTube and social media platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, as this position requires interacting with other staff and faculty throughout the University, as well as students, alumni and others.
  • Some evening and weekend work is expected for event coverage.

The University Videographer/Photographer must be able to:

  • Work as part of a team to conceptualize and actualize creative video and photographic concepts from preproduction to delivery.
  • Capture high quality video and photos in a variety of settings and situations, including on-location, portrait and event shoots, remaining consistent with the Millikin brand.
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects, effectively planning their time to complete tasks and meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Be comfortable working collaboratively with other staff, students, employees and freelance workers to ensure all projects meet larger university objectives.
  • Work together with writers, editors, and/or creatives to ensure maximum advantage is taken of each opportunity.
  • Edit photos and video demonstrating excellent skills and knowledge of lighting and composition with fluency in professional editing software.
  • Execute post-production tasks including color-correcting and audio mixing video footage, producing motion graphics and special effects for videos, editing video for impact and messaging, choosing music for project, and coordinating any voice over and sound effects.
  • Maintain quality control and a consistent look and feel, ensuring the finished product is in line with the approved concept, departmental goals and brand parameters.
  • Oversee and ensure that footage and the b-roll libraries are maintained and well-organized.
  • Maintain camera equipment and ensure its proper care.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. The position may oversee student interns from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to succeed in a result-driven professional organization. A successful candidate will have a passion for working collaboratively with faculty, staff and students creating photo and video materials for a wide range of audiences, a high level of creativity, and the ability to produce content in a fast-paced and deadline-orientated environment. Maintaining professional performance, demeanor, team-approach and focus on results while working under pressure in a dynamic environment. This position also requires strong time and project management skills.

Additional qualifications specific to this position are below:

  • Demonstrate videography and photography success in a variety of platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs or similar audio and video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite’s Premiere Pro software, Final Cut Pro (FCPX), DaVinci Resolve, Lightroom, and Photoshop).
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and facilitate teamwork.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to plan, execute and multitask to meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have a positive attitude and show self-awareness and openness to feedback.
  • Can work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights and weekends as required to cover assignments.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced work environment, solve problems creatively and work as a collaborative member of the Marketing & Media Relations team.
  • Physical ability to handle bulky equipment for an extended period in variable temperature and weather conditions.

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity and understanding of intellectual property rights and permissions related to licensed music and video usage.
  • Experience with live-streaming events a plus.
  • FAA drone certification a plus.

Minimum Education and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in photography, film studies, videography, multimedia or related field.
  • A minimum of two years of professional videography and photography experience.
  • A quality photography/videography portfolio highlighting a variety of work.
  • Demonstrated experience with video equipment, studio and location lighting, audio recording, and editing video projects.
  • Advanced-level user of multimedia authoring software.
  • Demonstrated advanced video/audio editing and multimedia composition skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others; must be able to relate with or develop an easy rapport with a broad range of faculty, staff, and students in various stages of their careers from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in understanding and translating marketing messages into visual communications.
  • Keen organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
