FOX West Texas, TEGNA's FOX affiliate in San Angelo/Abilene, is seeking a dynamic, tech-savvy Meteorologist/Multi Skilled Journalist to bring innovative weather coverage to our viewers across broadcast, digital, and social platforms. If you’re a creative self-starter with a passion for weather and storytelling, we want you to be part of our team!
In this role, you will create and produce real-time weather content, from live coverage to in-depth forecasts, providing our audience with up-to-the-minute information and engaging stories. You’ll work alongside a talented weather team, using cutting-edge technology and production techniques to enhance weather stories with graphics, animations, and social media engagement.
Responsibilities
- Track Weather Systems: Use your meteorology expertise to monitor weather systems and work directly with our Chief Meteorologist to deliver accurate forecasts.
- Create and Produce Content: Utilize your MSJ skills to shoot, edit, and produce content across broadcast, digital, and social media platforms, including live coverage of breaking weather events.
- Collaborate and Coordinate: Work with the weather team to develop original content and share video with other TEGNA stations to enhance our weather coverage.
- Engage Viewers: Research and create engaging weather stories, integrating video, images, social media, and user-generated content to drive engagement across all platforms.
- Innovate Weather Reporting: Use graphics, webcam interviews, and creative production techniques to enhance storytelling and weather reporting.
- Contribute to News Coverage: Participate in daily news meetings and work with the content team to create compelling stories.
- Real-Time Coverage: Bring urgency and immediacy to your work, responding to breaking weather events and delivering live updates as they happen.
- Additional Duties: Collaborate with the Content Manager and news team on other weather-related tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field.
- Experience: At least 1 year of professional meteorology and content production experience preferred, with hands-on MSJ experience a plus.
- Skills: Strong video editing skills and ability to produce high-quality content.
- Engagement: Proven ability to engage and grow audiences through compelling headlines and social media content.
- Writing and Editing: Familiarity with AP Style and the ability to edit or rewrite stories under tight deadlines.
- Creative and Driven: A highly motivated individual who takes an innovative, proactive approach to content creation.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
