Nissan. Onsite, San Diego. Contract W2 role. We are currently looking for an Automotive Exterior Designer 1. This position will be located in San Diego, CA. Primary function is the exterior design development of two-dimensional representations of future Nissan and Infiniti products by collaborating with all functions of the design process to create the required deliverables. Additional Job Description Essential Job Functions: (Include but are not limited to) Responsible for the two-dimensional representation and development of future automotive exterior designs for both Nissan and Infiniti Develop new and unique proposals in sketches, digital sketches, visual 3D models, renderings and other media to illustrate both individual and department designs. Assist the 3D modeling department in the interpretation of an exterior design into three-dimensional form while incorporating required Engineering parameters of the project. Communicate with Engineering and Design Leadership to create production feasible proposals. Work in a fast paced, dual brand, multiple project, creative environment with a high level of responsibility for each designer. Responsible for creating presentations and capable of communicating design proposal visually and verbally. Stay abreast of American and international automobile design, current technology and domestic and international regulations. The ability to work outside standard business hours to collaborate with global counterparts is required. Travel: Occasional, as needed to domestic, regional, and international locations. Minimum Qualifications: Must include URL with minimum four automotive exterior design projects with future and complex shapes They work on a small team, and each designer must be capable of performing from the outset. He is looking specifically for evidence of these skills in the candidate portfolio: Excellent sketching ability; good visual communication skill; graphic presentation skill; broad range of aesthetic taste; conceptual storytelling; digital modeling and animation skills; good problem solving skills. Please present evidence of this in your candidate summary/discussion. Experience: Minimum 0 to 3 years of experience in an automotive design studio Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Transportation Design or Industrial Design (this is a must and no other degrees will be considered). Required Skillsets: Excellent manual drawing ability, exceptional creativity, generation of new, unique and usable design ideas which reflect the brands. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator. Autodesk Alias, Sub-D, VRED. VR tools. Blender. Microsoft PowerPoint and MS Office in a Windows PC environment. Portfolio submission required Optional Skillsets: Movie making in After Effects is a plus - would like to do videos for presentations to senior leadership OPT candidates are okay as long as they have at least one year left. Travel is very minimal, maybe to HQ in TN or plant or Japan – need passport Bachelor’s or Master’s in Transportation design or industrial design – will likely be BS degree Portfolio link – one link only Really prolific, has lots of ideas about a new car, really crazy ideas, comes up with new things, every idea looks different, then they will reign them back in to make it more feasible Will look at portfolio, see the sketches everywhere, if it’s just the beautiful, finished model, they don’t know where it came from, what are their ideas, how did they come up with it, they will design the full vehicle – full exterior for vehicle or concept. Design experience is critical, more than just Photoshop and MS office. Building simple 3 D model in blender is great. Nissan will also train on new software.
