Founded in 1922, Foreign Affairs is the preeminent publication on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. It is published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a leading independent, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to producing and disseminating foreign policy ideas.

Foreign Affairs is looking for a deputy editor to join our editorial team. This position is located in New York on a hybrid basis, working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Participate in planning coverage, crafting editorial strategy, carrying out quality control, and designing and maintaining systems and schedules
  • Commission, review, and edit articles and other content
  • Help manage the editorial staff

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Significant editing experience
  • Experience with digital publishing
  • Management experience
  • Ability to juggle a wide range of tasks on short deadlines and work well as part of a team
  • Strong understanding of foreign policy and international affairs

Pay Range: $130,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience and education.
