General Description
The Teen Services Program Coordinator is community-oriented, and eager to build positive relationships between local teens, the community, and the library. In conjunction with the Teen Services Manager, the Teen Services Program Coordinator is responsible for designing, planning, promoting, and implementing Teen programs and services that align with YCL's goals and commitment to teen services. Teen programs should incorporate age-appropriate learning methods, career exploration opportunities, and state education standards. The Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Teen Services Manager to develop and maintain the teen book collection.

The candidate must enjoy being a team player and providing excellent member service to a diverse population. The position requires excellent communication skills and true enthusiasm for teen engagement. The candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with teens and their families, as well as staff, volunteers, and program providers. It is important that the candidate be organized, a multi-tasker, dependable, an advance planner, a self-starter, and comfortable working with diverse teens. Current technology and social media skills are vital, including the ability to learn new software applications, utilize YCL resources, and engage with teens while learning new skills.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Experience providing member service in a public library is preferred.
- Experience working with teens is preferred.
- Candidate must have current Child Abuse clearance; PA Criminal History; FBI fingerprint-based record check; and Mandated Reporter Training certificate.
Duties & Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Teen Service Manager, the Program Coordinator aligns services and programs with YCL strategic initiatives, sets program goals, determines measures for success, and tracks outcomes to enable analysis and reporting of data.
- Works with Teen and Volunteer Coordinator and Teen Leadership to assure programs provide balanced exposure to the many facets of technology, career and personal development opportunities, while also supporting teen self-expression and engagement.
- Engages directly with teens as they utilize the library, providing leadership and assistance with activities and scheduled programs.
- Knows and communicates library policies and behavior guidelines and equitably enforces them with teens, program attendees, and volunteers. Completes Incident Reports in a timely manner.
- Maintains the Martin Teen calendar of events, updating weekly, monthly, and quarterly encompassing the yearly cycle of events and programs for Martin Library and YCL Youth Services.
- Prepares YCL branded flyers, social media posts, and marketing materials with tools such as Canva.
- Assures needed equipment, supplies, hardware, and software are available for library programs. Maintains accurate inventory and orders items in a timely manner, while considering budget constraints.
- Assists with recruitment, training, supervision, and scheduling of staff and volunteers in Martin Teens.
- Attends community outreach events with Martin and YCL staff, promoting library programs and encouraging library membership.
- Assists Teen Services Manager with selection and maintenance of Teen Collection. Knows the collection, is familiar with the Integrated Library System (ILS), helps users locate materials, and uses various resources to provide reader’s advisory services.
- Creates, updates, and double checks member records, using the ILS.
- Performs opening and closing procedures with support from staff or volunteers.
- Attends Youth Services, Leadership, and other meetings as directed by supervisor.
- Responsible for maintaining an attractive and organized work area, including staff areas, public areas, and shelves.
- Performs additional duties and special projects, as directed and assigned, by supervisor.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level, be able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally throughout the shift.
- Must be able to push/pull carts weighing up to 120 pounds. Must be able to reach, lift, and stretch throughout the workday.
- Must be able to sit for up to four (4) hours at a time. Must be able to stand and/or walk up to four (4) hours at a time.
