About this opportunity: (Seasonal)

Helps direct the functions of the Conservatory Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; serves as a role model to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers. Also performs a variety of housekeeping duties for the Conservatory Music program; cleans restrooms, offices, and other camp facilities; washes, stores, and distributes linens and camper laundry.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Provides quality music instruction to campers.
  2. Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes.
  3. Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Divisional Music Director.
  4. Prepares students for recitals and concerts.
  5. Plans, schedules, assigns, and monitors the students' work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  6. Recommends and develops activities which will develop musical abilities, motor, and learning skills of students.
  7. Coordinates the program and activity within the policies and operating procedures of camp.
  8. Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable.
  9. Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
  10. Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  11. Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
  12. Washes camper’s laundry and returns it to the counselor.
  13. Assists in securing linens for campers without proper linens.
  14. Monitors light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary.
  15. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.
  16. Sweeps, vacuums, mops, and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks.
  17. Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
  18. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  19. Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
  20. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
  21. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, or abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements of the Camp Jr. Music Instructor/Housekeeping position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate music equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.
