This senior leadership role requires print and digital design expertise, with a strong emphasis on user-centered solutions and collaboration across teams to enhance existing products and bring new products to life. The Sr. Design Director will oversee the design of multiple special sections, sub-publications, and advertorial publications for The Dallas Morning News while partnering with cross-functional teams to develop creative elements for digital advertising and marketing campaigns. This role will work alongside the Product team to design solutions that enhance print and digital experiences. This senior leadership role requires a proven thought leader in design, structure, and digital and print storytelling. Strong ideation and hands-on design skills are a must. This leadership role requires experience working collaboratively with newsrooms, product teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders to conceptualize and execute engaging, audience-focused print and digital products. The ideal candidate has an audience-first focus and client-first attitude and knows how to turn print stories into innovative digital experiences. The person we are looking for is an Adobe CC star who is equally comfortable working in print and digital design. Direct the design and production of special sections and publications, ensuring high-quality, audience-focused creative solutions that align with DallasNews brand standards. Support UX/UI design initiatives with the product team to enhance digital interfaces for ad-driven or marketing-focused projects. Partner with newsroom and product teams to ideate creative elements for new publications or advertising products, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and audience needs. Design Excellence
Oversee all creative outputs across print and digital, maintaining consistency, innovation, and adherence to brand standards. Leverage expertise in UX/UI to design CMS-driven websites and microsites for special sections, marketing campaigns, and advertising client needs that prioritize user experience and accessibility. Provide art direction for photography, illustration, and multimedia projects to create visually compelling stories. Maintain a strong attention to detail in typography, layout, and production, ensuring all designs meet technical specifications and pre-press requirements. Leadership & Organizational Impact

Establish and track KPIs to measure the impact of creative work on audience engagement, user experience, and client satisfaction. Use data and user feedback to iterate on designs and continuously improve products and services. Drive measurable business outcomes, such as increased audience engagement, ad revenue growth, and successful product launches. Job Requirements
8+ years of graphic design experience in publishing, agency, or media settings, with a strong focus on print and digital design. Expertise in UX/UI design, including experience with CMS platforms and designing for responsive, mobile-first environments. Demonstrable expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and familiarity with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch). Proven ability to balance creative execution across multiple verticals, including special sections, publications, and digital platforms. Strong knowledge of pre-press, print production, proofing, and color correction processes. A robust portfolio showcasing work in both print and digital design, with an emphasis on UX/UI innovation. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate editorial concepts and ideas. Demonstrable expertise in print and digital design and eagerness to collaborate in ideation. Strong attention to detail and love of cutting-edge typography, design, illustration, and photography. Ability to produce and direct photo shoots. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while balancing various creative executions across different verticals, from home and real estate to business and senior living. A strong network of industry connections with illustrators, designers and photographers. Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Superior client presentation & facilitation skills.
