Job Summary
The Page I performs tasks that support all the overall functionality of the Library including shelving materials, locating and retrieving Library materials, directing inquiries from the public to the proper staff members and department, and monitoring shelves for neatness and correct shelving order, amongst other tasks.
Primary Function
The Page I performs the following duties:

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, the ability to push and pull wheeled book carts weighing up to 200 pounds, the ability to stand or sit for up to several hours at a time at a service desk, the ability to move freely about the Library assisting patrons in locating materials, and the ability to reach and bend to add or remove items from shelves.. Employee must be able to have far vision at 20 feet or further and have near vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to sit or stand for up to several hours at a time, lift books and materials from 5-30 pounds on a continuous basis and carry them short distance, reach overhead, bend, and kneel. Must be able to perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements.
The equipment required to be regularly used for this position includes book carts.

- Sort and shelve library materials accurately according to Library classification systems
- Monitor shelves for neatness and correct shelving order; straighten, organize, shift, move, and dust as needed
- Locate and retrieve Library materials
- Organize and transport returned Library materials
- Direct inquiries from the public to proper staff members and departments
- Other duties as assigned
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area within the Library, which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks and qualities:
- Ability to accurately sort and shelve alphabetically and numerically and to develop an understanding of the Dewey Decimal and other arrangement systems
- Ability to work independently in order to meet assignment deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with all kinds of people. Friendly and helpful manner, appropriate to a condition where constant public contact is involved and maintenance of good public relations is essential. Ability to deliver high quality service. Strives for new ways to increase satisfaction and understanding
- Ability to grasp ideas in written materials and verbalize them to others
- Ability to work as scheduled to accommodate the needs of the Library at the discretion of Library administration
- Ability to meet all required Qualifications for the position in order to complete Primary Functions and job duties as assigned
- Ability to learn essential Library hardware and software to complete position requirements
- Ability to serve the community in a professional and competent manner at all times
- Ability to constructively receive direction and instructions from managers and other staff
- Ability to work evenings and Saturdays as scheduled.
