Counselor - Music Instructor - Male BFOQ (Seasonal)

About this opportunity: (Seasonal)

Plans, implements, coordinates, and supervises an assigned group of children and youth; promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to campers; promotes and stimulates camper participation; coordinates and leads campers through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility; supervises campers during unscheduled program time and evenings; ensures compliance with camp rules and regulations at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Supervises and organizes an assigned group of campers during scheduled activities and unscheduled blocks of time in cooperation with camp rules and regulations.
  2. Promotes and stimulates participation of campers to ensure a pleasant camp experience.
  3. Coordinates and leads youth through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility.
  4. Lives with a group of campers and helps each camper adjust and get to know other campers and camp life.
  5. Maintains compliance with camp rules and safety regulations.
  6. Prepares for and leads rainy day activities as needed.
  7. Inspects fire extinguishers and reports to Head Counselor if any extinguisher has been dispensed.
  8. Ensures that all cleaning solutions are locked up except during use.
  9. Maintains adequate space in cabins for freedom of movement and emergency exits.
  10. Stays in cabin with campers at night and ensures proper supervision.
  11. Keeps door to your room open at night for order maintenance.
  12. Maintains an incident report book for each camp session.
  13. May be asked to teach a class according to your experiences or expertise.
  14. Handles cleanliness of cabins and camp facilities.
  15. Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in a safe and healthy manner.
  16. Ensures safety in utilizing supplies and materials for activities.
  17. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports.
  18. Participates enthusiastically in evening programs and camp functions.
  19. Assists in cleaning the cabins, kitchen, tables, floors, etc.
  20. Prepares and serves snacks and meals, ensuring a positive atmosphere during mealtime.

Music Instructor Duties:

  1. Provides quality music instruction to campers.
  2. Teaches music theory appropriate for playing purposes.
  3. Prepares students for recitals and concerts.
  4. Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students.
  5. Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
  6. Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through activities.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred; six months experience teaching music education preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements include endurance, climbing, standing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours is necessary.
